At Carina Heights Child Care and Development we believe that learning environments should be welcoming spaces that reflect and enrich the lives and identities of the children, families and educators that inhabit them. To support learning we endeavour to create environments that are vibrant, flexible, social and responsive to the interests and abilities of each child. We understand that learning and knowledge is not constructed in isolation but instead thrives within social groups. We value our environments because of their power to organise, promote pleasant relationships between people, create handsome play spaces and places, provide change, promote choice and activity and for their potential to spark all kinds of social, affective and cognitive learning. All of this contributes to a sense of well-being and security in children.
Our indoor and outdoor learning environments are thoughtfully curated with resources and materials that reflect what is natural and familiar and also introduce novelty to provoke interest and more complex and increasingly abstract thinking.
Our outdoor learning environments offer a vast array of possibilities not typically available indoors. Our natural outdoor play environments include plants, trees, bush tucker gardens, veggie and herb patches, sand, rocks, mud, water and other elements from nature. These spaces invite open-ended interactions, spontaneity, risk-taking, exploration, discovery and connection with nature.
